Knights Volleyball coach Vazquez steps down

Knights Volleyball coach Vazquez steps down

Wenatchee, WA- Changes are once again afoot with WVC Volleyball as they will be in search of a new leader for their volleyball program this offseason. Following her second season at the helm of the women's volleyball program for Wenatchee Valley College, head coach Ana Vazquez notified Athletic Director Kyle Vierck that she would be stepping down at the close of the season.

The Knights struggled over the past two campaigns under Vazquez, but Vierck noted the challenges with returning a program to prominence in this day and age in community college athletics.

"Ana was a consummate professional, every day.  She was learning on the job, and did an exceptional job at bringing the ladies together and forming the team.  The challenges our coaches face are many, but the primary one is simply that they do not have adequate time to build and sustain exceptional teams when they are forced to work two or three jobs simply to make ends meet," Vierck said.

"The future of our teams and our department hinges on leadership; we have to have coaches who can feel comfortable enough in their employment security to be able to give their talents to leading our young people.  It has been a problem that has plagued junior college athletics for years in the NWAC, and we have to get it solved.  Anything less on my part will be a failure of my leadership."

The search for a new coach wil begin in January, and Vazquez has agreed to stay on until the new coach is hired to aid in the recruiting cycle.
