Wenatchee, WA- WVC Knight Athletic Director Kyle Vierck announced the hiring of Mark Edmonston to the lead the Knight softball program at the start of the year.

"I have always seen Wenatchee as a destination," remarked Edmonston, who makes his way over the mountains from the Puyallup area, where he was due to assist at Pierce College this fall before being offered the position at Wenatchee Valley College.

Edmonston comes to Wenatchee with a tremendous background and knowledge in the sport, having spent the 2018 and 2019 softball seasons as an assistant coach at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, WA where he was responsible for coaching pitchers and catchers.

Prior to Saint Martin’s University, Edmonston was at the helm of the Pierce College softball program for a decade. In that time he amassed 262 college wins and 5 divisional championships (2008-11, 2013). He was named NWAC West Region Coach of the Year in four of those seasons. At the time of his departure for Saint Martin’s University following the 2017 season, he was the all-time winningest coach in the history of Pierce College Athletics.

Edmonston’s 2011 Pierce College squad tied the school record for wins in a season and finished 5th at the NWAC Championships, its highest finish since 1983.

Edmonston helped produce four West Region Pitchers of the Year and five West Region MVP’s. Players under his tutelage at Pierce set school records for career batting average, single season batting average and career homeruns. His teams won 37 games in a season twice, and his teams consistently posted a top level team cumulative GPA.  Fifteen sophomores under his watch were named to the NWAC All-Academic team.

Edmonston is the President of Washington Thunder Softball, a highly successful travel ball program which plays year-round in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona. He serves as the head coach for the 18U Thunder team.

Edmonston is a native of Yakima, Washington, where he graduated from Eisenhower High School and Yakima Valley College and played football under Wayne Purdom and Kayo Trepanier. He played men’s fastpitch beginning his senior year of high school until 1982 when he hung up his cleats to become a police officer with the Sunnyside Police Department.

The Knights kick off their preseason slate in the Tri-Cities with the NWAC preseason tournament in late February.
