Knights shine in Junior College Showcase

Knights shine in Junior College Showcase

Wenatchee Valley College was well represented as three men's and two women's soccer players took the field for the Junior College Showcase matches hosted by Eastside Timbers & Washington Timbers in the Portland area Friday. The showcase hosted the matches after the NWAC All-Star game had to be cancelled earlier in November following vandalism to the host venue.

Gretta Wiersma had a stellar afternoon, beginning with a first half assist to put the East ahead 2-1.  She followed that effort with a tremendous strike from the top of the box to once again give the East the lead in second frame.

Erin Aamold also had a strong performance that drew rave reviews from many of the college coaches on hand looking for prospects to fill their four-year rosters in this recruiting cycle.  Playing both in the midfield and up top, Aamold built on her strong season with a phenomenal performance.

The women's game ended in a 4-4 draw.

On the men's side, Luis Navarrete had a goal and an assist to lead the East team to a 3-1 victory at the Eastside Timbers facility in Portland.

Ignacio Castillo played 80 minutes in the midfield and backline and his performance drew heavy interest from the four-year coaches in attendance.

Alexis Calderilla tended goal for the full 90, producing numerous highlight reel saves in the first half to keep the scoreline close before the East broke loose in the scoring column later in the game.

All five Knights are in search of opportunities to play at the next level and will be weighing options and offers in the coming months as they head out for visits throughout the northwest.
