Wenatchee, WA- Saturday afternoon was not the sharpest the Knights basketball teams have been on the young season, but both coaching staffs were happy to come away with victories and move on to their next conference matchups.
The Knight women started the NWAC conference double header off with an uncharacteristic slow start, finally getting on the board with just four minutes left in the first quarter. Maddie Godwin came off the bench to spark the offense midway through the frame, and the Knights got rolling from there, taking a 37-21 lead into the break.
The visiting Timberwolves came out of the break with a bit of momentum and an 8-0 run to start, while the Knights were ice cold from the field, tightening the game for a bit before the Knights found their footing in the final quarter. Chasity Spady led the way with 14 for the Knights, with Ashley Taylor Peralta chipping in 10.
The Knight men brought their impeccable 14-1 record to Smith Gym, but started the game a little rough as early fouls and missed shots kept the game close in the early going before they were able to pull away late in the half for 41-25 lead. The Timberwolves succombed to consistent pressure from the Knights and struggled from the field, shooting a dismal 26 percent from the field.
The early moments of the second half brought a BMCC run behind strong play from Wes Persinger, but the run stopped after a few key turnovers and the Knights never looked back. The Knights were paced by Malik Parsons with 21, while Isaac Jones and Chance Michels added 18 points apiece.
WVC will be on the road to face a tough test at North Idaho on Wednesday, before returning next weekend to host both Spokane teams.
