Knights season comes to an end in the Quarterfinals

Knights season comes to an end in the Quarterfinals

Following a tremendous fall campaign for men's soccer, the Knights fought valiantly in the rain on the west side, but ultimatelty fell 3-0 to Peninsula College to closeout their season, just two games short of their goal.

Head coach Kyle Vierck was reflective following the loss: "There are few words that are useful in taking the pain away when your season comes to a close short of your goal.  However, I can say this for sure, I am so proud of the boys, the effort they displayed and the fighting spirit that they brought throughout the entire season.  It was absolutely my pleasure to lead them from the touch line, and we are pleased at the foundation that has been built in our program.  Today is simply an obstacle in a long journey; a start, not an end," Vierck said.

The Knights fell behind early on a rocket shot past a diving Alexis Calderilla following a turnover in the second minute of the match, and the day seemed to continue spiraling from there for the Knights.  Peninsula's high pressure style had the Knights on their back foot for much of the early going, yet the Knights had a few opportunities to draw level that simply didn't bounce their way.  Lalo Camarillo had a brilliant set piece strike that hit the inside of the left post, but it rebounded harmlessly away and the Knights continued to trail 1-0 going into the break.

The second half was a scrappy back and forth affair until a corner kick was knocked around a few times in the box and Peninsula once again found the back of the net in the 59th minute.

The game's final tally came on a penalty kick after a odd sequence of tangled legs at the top of the box, and the Knights day was done.
