Knight athletes shine in the classroom despite the odds

Wenatchee, WA- With the doors shuttered and the Wenatchee Valley College campus sitting vacant, it can be hard to find good news these days.

Look though, and you shall find...

After a tumultuous close to the winter quarter due to the ongoing challenges of the day, the Knights student-athletes posted a tremendous finish to their academic work, collectively finishing a half grade point higher as a department over their previous quarter.

"When I finally had the chance to pore over the numbers, I was stunned," Athletic Director Kyle Vierck said. "These students faced some serious challenges to finish their quarter, all while navigating some major life disappointments at the same time.  To have them show such tremendous resolve and finish with such high marks was remarkable.  It speaks to the steady leadership of their coaches, the tremendous support of our faculty and staff on campus, and the notable character of our students.  We simply could not be more proud."

Five of the seven sports experienced a jump in their team grade point averages this quarter, with volleyball along with men's and women's soccer seeing the greatest climb in their student-athletes' marks.

WVC will resume instruction on April 13th, with classes offered online to the greatest extent possible.  For more information on the upcoming quarter and Wenatchee Valley College's response to the current Covid-19 pandemic, please visit https://www.wvc.edu/students/safety/public-health.html.
